Jack Ma is the founder and CEO of Alibaba Group, a highly successful Internet business consortium in China. He is considered the richest Chinese in the world after the Alibaba Group public offering on the New York Stock Exchange. Ma was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China. And she started studying English at a young age, practicing English every day chatting with English speakers at Hangzhou International Hotel, a 70-minute bike ride from home.
He gave them free city tours to improve his English for nine years. After that, Ma attended Hangzhou Teacher’s Institute and graduated in 1988 with a B.A. in English. After graduating, he became a professor of English and international trade at Hangzhou Dianzi University.
Fun facts
Ma met his wife, Zhang Ying, when they were studying at Hangzhou Normal University. According to Ma and his assistant, Ma had been studying and practicing Tai Chi Chuan, a form of Chinese martial arts, in Hangzhou for some time when in 2009 he began studying with Wáng Xī’an, a famous teacher and master of martial arts. In 2011, Ma recruited several tournament-winning Tai Chi players to teach on Alibaba. Wang, Jet Li, and Ma hold regular classes on Alibaba, where employee attendance is mandatory.
